Calling All Esthers 3: Submission to the Authorities

Esther 2:10
Esther had not made known her nationality or her kindred, for Mordecai had charged her to not do so. AMP

As believers in Christ we need to understand that in order to exercise our authority and come to a place where we can expose and remove demonic opposition at our command like Jesus did, we must start from the foundation of obedience to God, obedience to His word and His personal commands for our lives, obedience to the governmental authorities of the land, obedience to our parents, and to every person that has a position of authority over us. We cannot assume that we can walk in disobedience and expect the kingdom of darkness to submit to our authority.

But the exception to that rule comes only when we find ourselves in the necessity of seeking the wisdom of God about our submission to the leadership over us because they are not following the authority of God, but of the demonic and may be asking us to do things contrary to God’s word—things that may be dangerous and illegal not only in the natural but in the spiritual realms, or that may take us away from the path that God has laid for us in our process towards our calling and destiny in Him.

Doing this may bring persecution from those we are not obeying, but we should be more willing to be persecuted by man because we are obeying and being submissive  to God’s will and authority than to open a door to demonic oppression because of rebellion against God and the authorities He has placed over us that are walking in right standing with Him. This persecution from wicked (twisted) leadership will pass for the reason that the Kingdom of heaven is backing us through the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, and the angels assigned to us to help us reach our destiny in spite of the opposition.

We see in the book of Esther how she followed and was submissive to her authorities. She was submissive to Mordecai, her cousin, and to Hegai, the eunuch in charge of the maidens. Notwithstanding, there came a time when she had to risk it all, even her life as she defied the king and the law made for everyone in the land because her position as queen did not matter in this case. This law said that no one could come to the king without being summoned by name because they could face death. The king had not called her for a long period of time to appear before him, but she went despite of the law and the risk she faced in order to save her family and her race from the plots of  Haman who wanted to annihilate the entire Jewish race throughout the kingdom of Xerxes (See the Book of Esther).

This type of submission was to God although it is not mentioned in the book because it was more important to face persecution or retaliation from Haman or the king like Mordecai and Esther did, than to obey a law when the lives of many people were at stake. Esther’s submission to the right authority brought her protection for her obedience to God through Mordecai who also in due season received his reward. But God gave the enemy his due judgment and saved many generations of His people through the valiant and divinely defiant ways of these two obedient vessels that God placed in the kingdom of King Xerxes for such as that time .

It is also essential to mention that submission to all authority figures in our lives brings protection from demonic attacks since the kingdom of God, the kingdom of darkness, and every area and industry on the earth function in ranking order. Matthew 8:8-9 says about the importance of understanding our need to obey our position in the ranking order and to be subject to our authorities, 8But the centurion replied to Him, Lord, I am not worthy or fit to have you come under my roof; but only speak the word and my servant boy will be cured. 9For I also am a man subject to authority, with soldiers subject to me. And I say to one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my slave, Do this, and he does it.

Also, Ephesians 6:12 talks about the demonic ranking order, For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places NKJV.

Furthermore, Romans 13:1-5 says, 1Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 4For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger who practices wrath on him who practices evil. 5Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake. NKJV

Unfortunately, there are leaders in all spheres of influence, including the church that are walking in disobedience and are acting more as obstructors of justice and truth than enablers of them. We are to pray for them, but our duty is to submit to God's will and authority even though we may face persecution from leaders that are influenced by the demonic to stop the work of God through us that advances and expands His kingdom on the earth and saves many lives.

Another example of that is found with David and Saul. After a period of favor that David received from Saul due to the destruction of Goliath and of the Philistine army under his authority, many people were making a distinction between the abilities of David and the abilities of Saul as warriors. They were singing that Saul could kill thousands, but David could kill more than ten thousands (1 Samuel 21:11, 29:5). This enraged Saul and the favor towards David turned then into persecution. Because of Saul’s rebellion, he was open to be used of the demonic to persecute David, but David still submitted to the authority and the will of God until he became the king that replaced Saul (1 Samuel 24:1-15; Psalm 57:1).

May we earnestly seek the wisdom of God and submit to the right authority for our situations so we may walk in protection from demonic oppression and rise up above our circumstances triumphantly because our obedience and submission to authority was placed in the hands of God and not in the hands of man. To Him alone be all the glory.
