Learning to Turn the Light on of God’s Wisdom

Genesis 1:2-3
The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.” NKJV

Man has been walking in a form of stupor, stumbling and slipping through life because of the darkness he has been subjected to from the time of Adam. He thought he could live without communing with God and partnering with Him for His supernatural power to be demonstrated in him and through him. The lie the enemy told Eve that she shared with Adam through the eating of the forbidden fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, instead made both of them void of the glory of God they once walked in.

Eating from this tree turned man into a being full of illusion and void of the reality (demonstration of God’s Word and His supernatural power) that comes to us by our knowledge of who He is and of the ways of His Kingdom. The enemy wanted Adam and Eve to think that they were like God knowing the difference between good and evil and blessing and calamity. But what really happened is that by eating from the fruit of the tree which God had told them to not eat, they were able to see their nakedness. This brought a transformation that God did not want. Genesis 3:4-7 says,

But the serpent said to the woman, You shall not surely die,
For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing the difference between good and evil and blessing and calamity.
And when the woman saw that the tree was good (suitable, pleasant) for food and that it was delightful to look at, and a tree to be desired in order to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate; and she gave some also to her husband, and he ate.
Then the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves apron like girdles.” NKJV

The transformation was one of darkness that made man fearful and this fear was the main entrance that made him turn from God and the godly wisdom that comes from our communion with Him. This in turn, caused him to reject God and think that he could accomplish life on earth on his own terms. In other words, by works and not by the grace of God that made us partakers of His glory and His supernatural power.

As the Scripture says in Genesis 1:3, there has to be light in us in order for us to follow the right path to the blessings and abundant life and this light can only come when we have the wisdom of God. This wisdom comes from a different type of fear than the one the serpent caused Adam and Eve to experience. Proverbs 1:7 reveals the difference of this fear.

“The [reverent] fear of the Lord [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence]; But arrogant fools despise [skillful and godly] wisdom and instruction and self-discipline.” AMP

Job 1:1 also talks about how he walked in this type of reverential fear of the Lord which forms our true character and causes us to live full of His wisdom and honor towards Him since it makes us blameless and upright in His sight when we trust and believe His word, and promises. It says, “There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God [with reverence] and abstained from and turned away from evil [because he honored God].” AMP

The fear the enemy caused Adam and Eve to be exposed to is a fear of nakedness which caused them to sew girdles made of fig tree leaves. We have mentioned before that the meaning of the fig tree is that man walks in the illusion and imagination of his mind about things that could happen to him or around him if he does not do something of his own volition to prevent it or change it. The problem with this view is that it does not include God’s counsel and direction for him to make better choices that will bring him godly outcomes and freedom from bondage to the enemy.

This type of darkness man still experiences today due to his rejection of God. He rejects knowing Him in order to walk as if he too is God. When a man lives apart from the wisdom of God there is also a lack of self-discipline to follow His ways which bring lack of discernment of the way he should go or of how to prevent evil in his life which could cause him to stagger along the way like a drunken man. In addition, there is no understanding and insight of how to walk in integrity and truth so he could instruct the next generation of the ways of God as we’re commanded to.

Deuteronomy 4:9 shows how we are commanded to remember the Lord and His mighty acts on our behalf and to pass this instruction to our children. But the men or heads of households are the ones instructed to do this. They were the ones that fought the battles on the way to the Promised Land and saw the defeat of the enemy. Therefore, from first-hand experience, they are the ones that are commanded by God to pass down the instruction of the Lord.  “Only take heed, and guard your life diligently, lest you forget the things which your eyes have seen and lest they depart from your [mind and] heart all the days of your life. Teach them to your children and your children’s children—“AMPC

Psalm 45:17 tells us how the sons of Korahs also followed this ordinance after they were restored to their positions as priests of the Lord so they could teach it to the congregations under their care. “I will make Your name to be remembered in all generations; therefore shall the people praise and give You thanks forever and ever.” AMPC

However, Psalm 78:40-42 tells us how Asaph recorded man’s disobedience and how in his defiance he chose to not remember God and the mighty works of His hand on his behalf. It says,

40 “How often they defied and rebelled against Him in the wilderness and grieved Him in the desert!
41 And time and again they turned back and tempted God, provoking and incensing the Holy One of Israel.
42They remembered not [seriously the miracles of the working of] His hand, nor the day when He delivered them from the enemy,” AMPC

What followed instead of remembering God was a rehearsal of the thoughts and perceptions brought by fear of the unknown that he had learned to live by and that he passed down to the next generation instead of passing down trust in God and His supernatural power to save, deliver, heal, fight on his behalf, provide, sanctify, and guide all the way to the fulfillment of His plans and purposes for man.

For this reason, many have fallen form the way and those who are lost don’t even know they walk in darkness that leads to destruction. Job also succumbed to this type of fear at a time when he was being tested of God through attacks by Satan to see if he would curse God. Job 3:25 says, “’For the thing which I greatly fear comes upon me, And that of which I am afraid has come upon me.” NKJV

Job 12:25 also says, “’They grope in darkness without light, And He makes them stagger like a drunken man.’” NKJV

But God wants us to turn from the darkness of fear of Him and of the unknown to full trust in Him and His power to help us live life in abundance and to overflow (John 10:10). For this, His Son Jesus died and it is the Father who leads us to Him, the Light. John 8:2 reveals Jesus as the Light of the world,
“Once more Jesus addressed the crowd. He said, “I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.’” NKJV

Ephesians 1:17-19 also demonstrates that by being flooded with the light of God through Jesus Christ, His Son, we can receive the spirit of wisdom and revelation of the mysteries and secrets of His Kingdom that help us know the hope for which we were called and the richness of the glorious Inheritance God has in us, His set apart ones. The greatness of God’s power in our lives instructed to us in His word is unlimited, immeasurable, and surpassing for us who believe. This is important to understand for us to walk in His light and glory that enables us to grow and overcome every obstacle at every level of our journey with Him. It says,

17 [For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation [of insight into mysteries and secrets] in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him,
18 By having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints (His set-apart ones),
19 And [so that you can know and understand] what is the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His power in and for us who believe, as demonstrated in the working of His mighty strength,” AMP

Psalm 119:105 also reveals this by saying, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” AMPC

Therefore, learning to walk in the Light of God through His Son, Jesus Christ, means that we walk in His wisdom and it is easier to understand His instructions in our times of communion with Him as we read His word and hear His voice, because we are flooded with His light which helps us recognize His voice and not follow the voice the enemy (John 10:27). Let’s ask Him to help us be flooded with His light and wisdom as the apostle Paul prayed on behalf of those who lived in his sphere of influence and authority.

To Him alone be all the glory. ▪
